Hello My Name Is...

Colleen Redmon

Welcome to Kindergarten!

The 2019-2020 school year will mark the start of my 12th year teaching at Prairie Creek. I have experience teaching two years of third grade and the past 9 years teaching all day kindergarten.

I graduated from Kansas State University where I earned my Elementary Education degree. I've been married to my husband for three years and we have two children attending the Spring Hill School District and a two year old.

This year your child will grow in so many ways. I feel blessed to be a part of your child’s education as they begin their school adventure.

Kindergarten students naturally have a love of learning. They are so excited to learn and discover new things each and every day. As an educator, my goal is to increase your child’s excitement and enthusiasm toward learning and the Prairie Creek Elementary School environment.

Each day builds upon the next in our classroom. We work on practicing letter names and sounds, combining these sounds to form words, and eventually piecing these words together to read sentences. This process is very exciting and by the end of the year your child will be reading books and writing sentences!

Kindergarten students also work very hard in math and building those beginning math skills that will help them throughout their school and life experiences. They practice identifying numbers, counting (by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s), reading calendars and graphs. We also work on identifying 2-D and 3-D shapes, addition/subtraction skills, beginning money and telling time skills.

Please feel free to stop by our classroom any time to see what we are up to.  I am so excited to work with you and your child this year. The growth in their academics, emotional maturity & friendships will truly amaze you.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our classroom please feel free to contact me.
