Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Fact Sheet - There have been two confirmed cases of Pertussis in the district. Even though the cases have not been at PCES, it is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of this disease.  


When Should Your Child Stay Home From School?


Prairie Creek Elementary follows the exclusion recommendations set forth by the Johnson County Health Department. Please see "Exclusion Recommendations" under the Health Resources page for other conditions not listed below. Please follow these guidelines:

Your child must be excluded from school if he/she has a fever of 100 degrees or higher. Your child may return to school when he/she has been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever–reducing medications.

Your child must be free of vomiting, diarrhea, and purulent eye drainage for 24 hours before returning to school.

Your child should remain home for 24 hours after starting an antibiotic therapy.
